terms of use

last updated 2026-08-26

These terms cover gene.dev, the signed-in side atplatform.gene.dev, the software distributed fromartifacts.gene.dev, and the bots and services listed on this site. Using any of them means accepting these terms.

what this is

A personal site and a set of personal projects, run by one person. It is not a company. Several things here are unfinished and say so on their own page. Nothing is offered with a service level, an uptime commitment, or a support obligation.

accounts

An account is only needed for the parts that have a signed-in side. Authentication is handled by Clerk; see the privacy notice for what that involves. One account works across every product here that needs one.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Give accurate information, do not share credentials, and tell me at[email protected] if you think it has been accessed by someone else. You can close your account at any time.

acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law, or use these services to harm or harass anyone
  • attempt to gain access to accounts, systems or data that are not yours
  • disrupt the services: automated scraping at a rate that degrades them, deliberate resource exhaustion, and similar
  • redistribute license keys, capability tokens or paid entitlements
  • misrepresent modified builds as official ones

Security research is welcome. If you find something, report it privately to [email protected] before disclosing it, and do not access other people's data while looking.

software and source

Software is distributed from this site as built artifacts. Where a repository is linked, its own license governs that source, usuallyMIT, which lets you use, modify and redistribute it freely, including commercially. Each project page states its license, and the repository is authoritative.

Where no repository is linked, the source simply is not published. That is the whole distinction: things are either published under a permissive license or not published at all.

Publishing source is not an invitation to collaborate. These are personal projects, maintained for their own sake rather than with contributors, and no support or review obligation comes with reading the code.

no warranty

Everything here is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. It may break, lose data, or stop existing. To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for damages arising from its use. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.

Take your own backups of anything you care about.

ending things

I may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or retire a service entirely. Where a service is being retired and I can reasonably give notice, I will. You may stop using any of it at any time.

changes

These terms may change. The date at the top is the version in force. If a change materially affects account holders, I will say so on the platform rather than changing it quietly.

law and contact

These terms are governed by Finnish law, and by the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence where those apply. Questions go to [email protected].
